增譯：增詞不是無中生有，而是要根據(jù)上下文特別是與介詞搭配的動詞或形容詞的含義加得恰當。有不少情況，句中與介詞搭配的動詞或形容詞不出現(xiàn)，如照原文結(jié)構(gòu)無法把意思表達清楚，甚至易于誤解時，這就需要增詞。

如：Thats all there is to it.那就是與此有關(guān)的全部內(nèi)容。（原句中 to=related to）

The engineer was taken ill with cumption. It was flour on the lungs， the doctor told him at the time.這個工程師得了肺一病、那是由于面粉對肺部的影響，當時醫(yī)生這樣對他說的。翻譯時應(yīng)根據(jù)上下文準確理解并注意漢語的表達習(xí)慣,靈活運用,勿生搬硬套。（on=effect）

因此，熟悉介詞與動詞或形容詞的習(xí)慣搭配是增詞并正確理解詞義的一種重要手段。

名詞譯成動詞

⑵The dependence of the rate of evaporation of a liquid ontemperature is enormous.譯為:液體的蒸發(fā)速度很大程度上取決于它的溫度。⑶W ith the use of the increased temperature and pressure,the oil is cracked into lighter or heavier fracti.譯為:利用高溫,可將石油裂化成輕餾分或重餾分。⑷Where the source is normally mounted on a horizontalp lane surface,the corresponding free field is a hem isphere,andthus sound p ressure measurements are made at points on the sur2face of the hypothetical hem isphere.譯為:在聲源正常地安裝在一個水平表面的地方,相應(yīng)的自由聲場就是一個半球面,這樣就可在相應(yīng)這個假設(shè)的半球面上的一些點測量聲壓級。⑹上一個英語句中,為了避免名詞重復(fù),省略了名詞icecream。
