臂架式起重機的特點與橋式起重機基本相同?？稍趫A形場地及其上空作業(yè)，多用于露天裝卸及安裝等工作，有門座起重機、浮游起重機、桅桿起重機、壁行起重機和甲板起重機等。臂架式起重機包括：起升機構(gòu)、變幅機構(gòu)、旋轉(zhuǎn)機構(gòu)。依靠這些機構(gòu)的配合動作，可使重物在一定的圓柱形空間內(nèi)起重和搬運。臂架式起重機多裝設(shè)在車輛上或其他形式的運輸（移動）工具上，這樣就構(gòu)成了運行臂架式旋轉(zhuǎn)起重機。如汽車式起重機、輪胎式起重機、塔式起重機、門座式起重機、浮式起重機、鐵路起重機等。工作水平高，起重能力不大，即使兩臺起重機重量相同，但工作水平不同，各部件的安全系統(tǒng)也不同。
